Jacob was baptized by his father May 30th 2009. These past eight years seem to have flown by. It's hard to believe our little man is eight already. It was a beautiful day. My sister Jenna flew in from Arizona with her girls and surprised us for the baptism. It was so wonderful to see her and her girls. I still can't believe they came. We were totally surprised!!
One of my responsibilities serving in stake primary is to participate in our stake baptisms. I greet the children, give them each a special letter from the stake presidency and then lead the music for both sessions.
What first I thought of as a three hour time commitment on a Saturday has turned into one of the most special experiences of my life. I have always said there is a unique spirit in primary and it is really an honor to be at those baptisms every month, see the children as they prepare to make their first important covenant with the Lord, listen to the talks and music and appreciate the quiet to reflect on my own covenants.
This day was especially touching to see Jacob prepared and ready to enter the waters of baptism. I made a promise eight years ago, that I would give him two hugs and two kisses when he was baptized. One from me, and the other from another very special person. That was indeed a poignant moment when I reflected on how this boy has blessed our lives by becoming a part of our family. I realized those blessings even more as we took our family picture afterward in front of the temple where he was sealed to our family forever.
